Far Hills Township, N.J., only has a population of around 1,000 residents, but the population annually soars to nearly 50,000 people on Far Hills race day. Many horse racing fans in the New York City tri-state area may not realize their close proximity to the Far Hills Race Course. The Far Hills course record of 4:53.90 belongs to All Gong, the 2000 winner of the 2 5/8-mile hurdle Grand National run over 14 fences. This grand old tradition got a welcome boost in 2021, when the Far Hills Races were run on national television for the first time as a part of America’s Day at the Races broadcast on Fox Sports’ FS2 channel.ģ. With the exception of 2020 and World War II, the Far Hills races have been continually run on the same site – today known as Far Hills Race Course, or Morland Farm – since 1916.
